The Field & Mary Scovell Scholarship Foundation today announced that 15 individual $3,000 grants will be awarded this spring to North Texas students with leadership abilities, high moral character, demonstrated financial need, and a connection to sports.

Applications for 2010 Scovell Scholarship Foundation grants are now available online by clicking on the link on the home page of www.scovellscholarship.com. Applications can also we accessed via the Scovell Foundation link on the AT&T Cotton Bowl website (www.attcottonbowl.com).

Ten of the 15 scholarships will be awarded to North Texas graduating high school seniors who continue their higher education in the state of Texas or at a Big 12 Conference or Southeastern Conference university -- the two conferences associated with the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic.

The five remaining scholarships will be reserved for previous Scovell Scholarship winners currently enrolled in college. These scholarships are the E.E. �Buddy� Fogelson Scholarship, the Catfish Montgomery Scholarship, the Ben E. Keith Company Scholarship, the Hunt Consolidated/Hunt Oil Company Scholarship and the Mary Dupree Scovell Scholarship.

"The entire Scovell family is grateful to the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association for their support of young people in North Texas," said Sue Scovell Lavender, daughter of Field and Mary Scovell.

Completed applications will be accepted through March 22, 2010. All applications should be sent via mail to the Scovell Scholarship Foundation at One Legends Way, Arlington, TX 76011. Recipients will be notified in April and will be honored at a reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in May.

"We have inherited a great legacy from my grandfather and grandmother, and we will continue to work to fulfill their dreams of expanded opportunities for future generations," said Dupree Scovell, grandson of Field and Mary Scovell.

The Scovell Scholarship Foundation honors the legacy of Field Scovell, known as "Mr. Cotton Bowl," for his longtime service as team selection chairman for the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, and his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary. The Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to local students.

In addition to the $3,000 scholarship, each recipient will receive invitations to AT&T Cotton Bowl events and will have the opportunity to work during AT&T Cotton Bowl Week.
